Nicole's Monday
Let's see.. for breakfast I had coffee and a bowl of cereal. Then I went for my walk, which again I had to go further because I hadn't hit an hour yet! For lunch I had some pasta and a turkey burger that we grilled last night with only half the bun... which is great for me cuz I love bread in all shapes and sizes. At work I snacked on some trail mix and for dinner I had a scoop of mashed potatoes, 3 of those chicken meat patties (they are small... around the size of an egg), and a whole lot of broccoli. I've also had 48 oz of water today which is good for me. I notice that my fruit and veggie count for the day isn't very high so I think I'll have an apple for dessert. :-)
My Monday
Back to work :( Didn't sleep well last night, so I had no energy to exercise today. But I did find my pedometer, so as soon as I get a new battery in it, I'm gonna try to wear it all day.

S: fiber one bar
L: Eating Right lasagna, iced tea
S: another fiber one bar
D: home-made burger and sweet potato fries. They didn't turn out as I had hoped, but not bad. Caitlin- what spices do you put on them?

Exercise-walked 30 minutes during lunch-2 activity points

Ds- apple pie, and like two spoonfulls of ice cream (I couldn't say no to dessert but I definetly had smaller portions than I would have before I started keeping track)

Went for a walk on west cliff today with Mark - not a run, but a somewhat fast pace, I think. We probably walked for an hour total, with a break half way. I start back to work tomorrow, so it'll be hard to keep it up, but I'm gonna try. Nicole (just joined) had a good idea of wearing a pedometer all day and if you don't reach 10,000 steps (the goal) by the time you get home, go for a walk till you do. Joining the Cause!
In an effort to make better food choices, get in shape and well of course... lose weight, Alyssa has convinced me that this is the place to do it. I think its a good way to stay motivated and get some good ideas from you all on how to live a fitter and healthier life. So here I am!
I think I eat pretty healthy in general but I could stand to be a little more active. So this week I started walking for an hour everyday. Getting started was the hardest part but now I look forward to getting out there and its getting easier. In fact, when I went today I found that my usual route took me only about 40 minutes so I went a little further to make it a full hour. I'm hoping to start jogging a bit too but maybe I'll start that next week... I did buy new running shoes yesterday.
Anyway here's what I've had to eat so far today
B- coffee, fried egg w/ cheese, bagel, apple juice
L- pasta from last night (linguini w/ onions & bacon) water
for dinner we are going to some friends' house so I'm not sure what we're having. I'll keep you posted! =)

quick non diet question
so ladies, I am thinking of nannying and babysitting on the side to save/make money..now does anyone have any idea on what I should ask as a wage? I got a degree, years of experience, a car, a smile, a song and dance?

end of spring break :(
so apparently when my schedule changes (spring break), everything I do regularly disappears from my brain, such as blogging.
anyway, I've been okay this week, I think. Not eating too much while at home, haven't had many desserts or drinks. Went for a 1 hour walk today.
I went to get my dress altered, and it was an entire size to big!! woo hoo! when I bought it (a year ago) it fit perfectly. So, although that was awesome, it meant I had to go back to David's Bridal and exchange it for a smaller size - and even that one is a tiny bit loose! - luckily they were cool about it. So now I'm trying to figure out how to tone up my arms and back without getting smaller so that the alterations aren't messed up - is that possible?

It's hard with family visiting
My mom is visiting and I am finding it is hard to keep to my eating plans. Dinner on Monday night was not the light points I had planned as we went out to dinner with my son for Sushi. I tried to be good, but I know I did in more points than I was planning on. Thank god, I walked /talked with Dawn during lunch that day.
Then on Tuesday, I did not eat breakfast as I knew we were going to join my brother and his wife for lunch at Olive Garden. I had 1 breadstick, 2 bowls of Toscana soup, & 2 bowls of salad. I was going to just have 1 of each, but that plan didn't work. Then to top off everything my sister called to say she was making chicken & dumplings and taquitos for dinner! Two of my favorites. Again I tried to be good but... At least I can say that I didn't eat as much as I would have before WW.
So, here I am again today (Wednesday) planning to make wise eating choices and not give into temptation, but we are suppose to go out tonight and I know it's going to be hard.

sorry I've been MIA for a bit. Busy weekend. I can't recall all that I ate, but I know it included a lot of reeses pieces with Dawn :) I did go for a 2 hour hike Saturday. And I weighed myself yesterday and I've lost between 5 and 7 pounds! (depending on where I started, I'm not exactly sure). So that feels good, definitely. I have my first wedding dress fitting Thursday, so it's good timing.

I'm a seal
I don't think I spelled seal right...it just looks wrong. Anyway, I mean the kind that hangs out under the warf in Santa Cruz -- or, maybe those are sea lions. Barking like a seal, that is -- coughing, you know. Anyway, I have been out for the count the past almost a week with bronchitis. I did spend a lovely afternoon yesterday (yep, Easter) in the urgent care clinic finally getting some antibiotics. Anyway, sorry I've been MIA, and I will be back to post my nutritional successes and stumbles. But, mostly successes, if all goes as planned :o)

Monday - I'm back
Have not entered for a while. I was on vacation and then came down with an infection that just did me in.
Anyway, I'm back now and hope to get back into posting.
Weighed in on Saturday. I've lost 15.2LBS. It seems like slow progress but I'm averaging about 2LBS a week.
The weekend really set me back points wise. I did not count points until this morning. If I worked it out right I used up my daily points and most of my weekly points. So I have to make good choices this week.
Food Plan for today
Breakfast - Grapes, Light cheese wedge, & coffee with skim milk.
Lunch will be - WW Meal
Dinner will be - Baked fish & vegetables
Hope to get in a walk today.

Weighed in on Saturday. I've lost 15.2LBS. It seems like slow progress but I'm averaging about 2LBS a week.
The weekend really set me back points wise. I did not count points until this morning. If I worked it out right I used up my daily points and most of my weekly points. So I have to make good choices this week.
Food Plan for today
Breakfast - Grapes, Light cheese wedge, & coffee with skim milk.
Lunch will be - WW Meal
Dinner will be - Baked fish & vegetables
Hope to get in a walk today.

My cold seems to be gone but it has left me without a voice. It is so hard to stop myself from vocalizing with the little mousy sounds I have left. hooray for spring break!!
the best thing about being a teacher is the vacation time. and I suppose its rewarding in other ways, whatever :)

ya! so let's see, I made an amazing chicken dinner last night with sauteed ginger asaragus, carrots and some onions, with a chicken that I put a seaseme ginger glaze (from TJs) and grilled it, and then a little bit of brown rice. it was yummy. and then I really didn't eat much after that, maybe a bit of muffin, but that's it...went to sleep and stayed in bed. holla!

I am slipping a bit, I have been temped by so many sweets and greasy things...I almost ate the cupcakes I was to bring to the kids I was watching. The good news is that I didn't steal sweets from the kids - but I so wanted to, so I got my own chocolate. Next time I will have to choose something that comes with only one portion.

yes we deserve to be healthy
I too am an emotional eater, eat out of happiness, sadness, boredom, yeah totally not cool. but this is the time where I am going to learn how to do things...or deal with them.
ALyssa, this may be a hidden silver lining in that you could look into jobs with teenagers and more at promise youth so to speak. though I should tell you that my job is also not gaureenteed next year as our grant ends this year...so maybe we will both be in front of KMART/Home Depot trying to get a job...haha...ok, really not that funny...
so ate in middle of night, 6 pts, muffin and milk..better then 10 pts of ceral...

In response to Dawn's comment yesterday...no, not every teacher gets pink slipped every year. this is a very strange, messed up budget year and we are getting shafted. I work for a distict that is apparently unable to come up with any creative ideas for compensating for the budget cuts, and has chosen to send over 200 pink slips, mostly elementary positions. its not definite that I won't have a job, but likely. I'll keep ya'll posted :)

I think I need to organize my time a little better so that I am more prepared for my meals. I tend to not have time and then eat out, spending too much money and setting myself up for disaster.
Do you ladies have any thoughts about busy schedules and eating/exercising right?

B: Donut. Grrr. Someone thought they were being nice by bringing in several dozen donuts to the staff room, but it was just mean! I couldn't resist, with it being not only a Monday morning but they day I was to receive my pink slip at work :(

I got my appetite back last night and we made/ate spinach-ricotta ravioli, peas and tomatoes. It was fun to make the ravioli, they were not the most beautiful, but they were tasty! Today I am feeling a bit better, but not all the way, which sucks because I have class until 9 tonight. I could use a nap!

L: baby shower "tea party" - lots of snacky foods, like little sandwiches, bite-size quiches and tarts, etc. Tea, and 2 mimosas.
D: 2 pieces ham and pineapple pizza, salad, and a beer
D: 2 bite-size chocolate organic truffles
Sunday:
B: egg and cheese sandwich on whole-wheat english muffin, coffee
S: half a slice of pizza, half a soda
S: half a Fiber One bar
D: Japanese - miso soup, salad, and split 2 rolls
Mark and I went on a very long hike today!! Our house is up in the mountains on a dead end road, and at the end of the road are several trails. One of them leads to Scotts Valley. So we did that trail, it was a little over an hour from our house to my dad's house, then we hiked back as well after a short rest, so all together 3 hours of walking/hiking. It wasn't extremely strenuous, but tiring for sure. Especially since it's been so long since I've moved, at all. My hips hurt! But it felt good... hopefully that was the kick start I need!

I missed breakfast because I was in a rush and then the house I was working at had no real food options so I had the tortilla roll up, then I was so hungry going home that I felt I needed a burger and fries. All of these choices did not fall into my goal of more veggies/fruit and less white food.
Making past was really fun. It was like playing with the playdoh factory toys, but then we got to eat it! I think we will tweak the recipe a bit next time, but it felt good eating the wheat rather than the white pasta. I think I could learn to love it just the same.

Ok-mok
Ok-mok is the best! Toasted sesame seed whole wheat crackers -- five gigantic crackers = 115 cals and equates to better than 2 pieces of bread (at 200 cals), in my opinion. Spicy and nutter :) Also, I weighed myself for "Start" weight this morning. I'll call that "zero" and then I'll post weekly with my pounds lost for the week and total lost. So I guess my weight-in day will be Friday, by default.
I feel like I've been pretty good this week for eating -- No drive through or fast food at all, no dorritos, no chocolate peanut butter eggs (fed my chocolate craving with simply choc-crisp bars, my super fav!). NO EXERCISE YET, THOUGH! Matt and I are going to start tonight after work. It is pretty sweet that he is into eating better and working out, so we can do this together :)

I feel like I've been pretty good this week for eating -- No drive through or fast food at all, no dorritos, no chocolate peanut butter eggs (fed my chocolate craving with simply choc-crisp bars, my super fav!). NO EXERCISE YET, THOUGH! Matt and I are going to start tonight after work. It is pretty sweet that he is into eating better and working out, so we can do this together :)

no exercise for me today, big surprise. when I walked up the 1 flight of stairs at work to pick up the kids from lunch today, my quads hurt. that is disgusting. I'm angry at myself for not having the self-discipline to actually do something about it. I just can't seem to get going.

Hump Day
Ugh. Bad food day for me. I intended to be good. I went to the coffee shop in the morning and ordered a whole wheat bagel and the usual latte. They didn't have whole wheat so I went with cinnamon raisin. I grabbed my coffee and left, not realizing I forgot the bagel till I was half way to work. So I stopped at the next coffee shop (ridiculous) and got a horrible pastry. I ate it for snack, then had a yogurt. I intended to go to Jamba Juice between my hair appt. and my meeting (which would have counted for my fruit for the day), but didn't have time, went to the meeting and had the catered food there: salad, garlic bread, a cookie, coffee, and some pasta cheese thing. Now I'm home, I'll probably be hungry soon. I think Mark and I will split an artichoke. I'm hoping tomorrow goes a little smoother :)
What am I gonna do with all these lumps??
So, yeah, I don't know what it is with me and setting goals, most none weight related goals I have attained, and I am proud of that...but for some reason, the diet ones seem to go down the drain...last night I was exhausted when I went to sleep, woke up hungry, ate a bar I kept in my room, to not go to kitchen, but went to the kitchen and had ceral anyways...ahhh...that sucks, so I think the total points lost was 8..so 25 -8= 17 points left for the day, then I had 2 pts in ceral, and coffee which get's me at 15 pts, and it's only 9.40am, I am hungry, and am gonna be around food in a bit..but well I am proud of my gnarly work out yesterday which I am super sore from, and really do want to stick with this..oh geez...well just the mid morning update, will fill you all in the rest later...peace

My Tuesday
First off - Welcome Ellen! I'm glad you've joined the "club" .... I think you'll be amazed at how much it really helps to just be accountable and more aware of your food and exercise choices.
Okay -
B: the usual
L: quiche, banana, gatorade
S: rice cake w/ peanut butter and blueberries
D: gonna have half a grilled cheese sandwich, salad, and soup
D: 100 calorie pudding
I think Ellen has a good idea of setting a monthly goal, not necessarily of weightloss, but of behaviors and choices. So my goal for this month is to eat at least one piece of fruit a day. I know that doesn't sound like much, and I've actually been doing okay with it recently, but I tend to eat a lot of salad and stuff but not fruit. So I'm bringing a piece to work each day. Once I get a fridge in my classroom I'll be able to keep more stuff at school.
So ladies, what are your goals?

Beginnings
Hey, ladies :) Dawn is such a good motivator. We're on the phone and I'm saying how I am going to start posting to the blog "soon" and she says, "Why don't you go join right now. And, post about today, or what you are going to do tomorrow. Just do it, you'll feel good." Or, something to that effect.
So, here I am. I am "recovering" from a surgery I had last week and have been using that as an excuse to eat Reese's chocolate peanut butter eggs and nacho cheese dorritos. Cause, really, I "recovered" after 1 day but I've really been milking it in my mind :P I swear, the checkout line is sometimes such a challenge for me -- I think I'm a little kid sometimes who is whining to their mom, "I wanna candy bar!!" as everyone around them stares and silently judges the mom as she does or does not give in to the screaming. Only, I am the kid AND the mom, and no screaming is involved. Just a silent little addition to my cart that is otherwise filled with strawberries, bananas, tomatoes, chard, bell peppers, etc.
So, one goal for this month is no checkout line treats. Also, I need to make sure to bring my lunch every day to work. I do so well when there are healthy options available to me. I always have ready snacks (mainly bars from our biz and fruit), but it's the savory lunch part I forget to bring. Then McDonald's across the street attracts me. And, I don't even like McDonalds'.

My Weekend
So, both today and yesterday, Mark and I slept in a bit, so I haven't eaten all that much, which is good.

D: homemade small cheeseburger and baked fries. The fries were yummy - just olive oil, spices, and baked!

I think I will cut down on drinking, cause once I am drunk, I allow myself to eat too much...the issue is that whether it's food or drink to mask a problem or issue, I need to address the issue...oh the journey...

All the white bread and fatty meats I have consumed recently have been very poor choices. It is hard for me to stay away from eating things that are already in my house. So one of my projects for the day is to plan ahead for my meals this week and to stay away from all the temptations in the grocery store. If I do not make some conscious efforts to control and take charge of my exercise and what I put in my mouth I will only end up gaining weight. And that is not what I want.

I really appreciate all the support, it totally helps.
So the rest of yesterday, I had a turkey sandwich which I made with low point bread, so the whole thing was 2 pts, then jonny wanted to go to dinner before movie, I said I wasn't hungry, but well, I went with him anywys, was pretty good, ate probably less then 1 pts of chips (they were nice and hot) and then ordered a side of beans, rice and avo, but really ate only a few bites with 1 and a half corn tortillas, so not to bad, at my points 25, but I was so hungry when we got home, so I had 2 pts of oatmeal and 3 pts of ceral, so now 5 less on my flex. I can still do this.
SATURDAY
didn't wake up! yes!! hola :) so I am feeling happy, had eggs, with green beans and cheese and coffee, 4ts, then a low point turkey sandwich 2 and 2 pts from the fiberone bar...I had one of the drink mixes ellen gave me and it was good, gonna order those..I am headed to a friend's BBQ soon, I am bringing some green squash to BBQ and a 1 pt boca, so I can do this...ya! feeling happy. xoxo

so I am at 13 of my overboard points, but that doesn't include my manic monday...so I think if I stay in points until Monday, which is my weigh in day I should be able to lose...that's going into the weekend, but I will exercise everyday and stick with it...only problem is on both Saturday and SUnday I was invited to drinking events..now, as you all know, I can not drink, but with both these groups I am not sure if I want to not drink with them...does that make sense? and staying at home, could lead into some bad munching...eck...support me ladies..

I am over by 4, so I will go to the gym tonight. I also burn a lot of calories at rehearsal, so once i get my pedometer fixed I can see if I can gain any points there.
I went grocery shopping and bought some really good stuff (i was not hungry, thank you alyssa for the reminder) fruit, frozen veggies, brown rice, easy cook chicken, yogurts and eggs. I felt super healthy and awesome. For a long time I thought I was a bad person for buying easy microwave/cook type meals, but you know what, inner critic? I AM BUSY
Speaking of busy, for a long time I have known that the amount of crap I do interferes with how I wish I would take care of my body and mind. It stops me from making new a new lifestyle for myself, mainly because I am so tired all the time. In the spirit of the book eat pray love (which you all should read) I have made a petition. Its a "Do not let Rosie do so much stuff so she can take care of herself for once, dammit" petition. It stipulates that I will not sign up for another show, project, costume job, extra job, or party planning until (or after) October 6th, 2008. A sort of sabbatical, if you will. If you would like to sign this to help me with my goal, please comment on this blog. Thanks!

S: fudgecicle, yogurt, 1 c of goldfish

well I did not eat enough during the day than I just kept eating at night. I have been on a bit of a bagel obsession - it would not be so bad if I could get myself to plan ahead and have something whole wheat on hand.

D: dinner will be sushi at home (dans b-day dinner), sashimi, miso soup, edemame , cheese cake (I plan on serving my self a mini piece) and 1 beer

Tuesday
I started out rough with a bad breakfast - I was running late and picked up a sugary fruit pastry at the coffee shop. I also had the usual NF vanilla latte. Lunch was a banana, quiche, and vitamin water. A bowl of cereal for snack. Dinner was 2 chicken tacos and 2 margaritas (Olitas). Now I'm having a cup of Sweet Dreams tea.
Oh no!
Well Saturday went pretty well stuck to my points but Sunday I'm sure I did in my points for the day and a major portion of my weekly points. Took a drive up the coast to the town of Ojai and had too much fun. Ended up at a bikers bar (weekend bikers, I hear they are mostly doctors and lawyers) for their outdoor BBQ. Oh my god, the food was excellent and not WW friendly, not to mention the drinks. Anyway, at the end of the day I know I over did it. Monday I did good and even stayed below my points for the day, but today I blew it again. I started out good, but blew it after work! I have no more weekly points and I'm sure I will have gained weight instead of lost. I have 8 activity points for the week and I'm hoping they help. I plan to go to the gym tomorrow before the WW meeting. Dawn, do you want to walk/talk during lunch at 11 am? Email me if you do and I'll call you.

went to rubios, at the inside of 2 tacos, one was health mix, they were both supposed to be but cheese, cream and guac ended up in the other with chips (had about 5) and beans (had like 2 tb) so I give that whol thing 7

that puts me at 25...crap.. that's my points for the day...so I am going to go and work out, worked out both Monday (walked) Sunday (at gym) and tomorrow planning lots of walks in this nice weather...
so I will eat a boca burger and some veggies for dinner..and that will put me over by like 2 pts, but that's OK...I can do this...
ok, so I ended up eating 1/2 a bag of popcorn 2, and rest of my smoothie frm last night 2, and then egg and toast, 3 and then hot coco, 2, so my points were off, but I stopped, and needed that amount, and i worked out over an hour...I feel OK, when I eat a little over, it's when I can't stop that I get mad. ya know what I mean?

I hate Mondays. Grrr... I just can't seem to get my eating right on Mondays for some reason. I end up snacking on crap. Here's what I had today:

Mark and I went to Zachary's for breakfast, and I stuffed myself! I feel like lately I've been eating smaller meals and snacking a lot, so going out for a big breakfast made me feel icky. I had scrambled eggs, sourdough toast, potatoes, fruit, coffee, and mimosa. But I didn't even eat it all, so I don't know why it felt so heavy. Then I went home and took a nap, woke up, and went to Pink Godzilla with Dawn. I had salad, miso, and a couple of rolls. All the Girl Scout cookies are gone, so I won't have to worry about those tonight.

OK, so I am back...and have been thinking about you ladies, hope you all had a good week, I don't think there is anyway I can regergitate what I ate over the past week. but most of the time I really was not that bad, yes I had dessert and cookies, but nothing too crazy, no binges, and would eat egg whites, veggies and stayed in check..I weigh in on Monday, so let's see what happens, but will be back to daily blogging starting now...so what I ate today
