It's Friday! C'mon Craig, stimulate your mind...

How come Chris Tucker could be so hilarious as Smokey in "Friday" but so mediocre in the Rush Hour movies that made him his money?

I weighed myself this morning and it was not pleasant. Hairbrushes were broken. No, just kidding, but there was no change from the last couple of weeks. I actually was just pleased I hadn't gained weight, considering I have been so damn inconsistent. I tend to range from super-awesome to super-binge with eating habits. One thing I am very consistent about is NOT exercising ;P So there's something...

But, anyway, I am getting myself together, I am just not ready to have my light-bulb turning point moment today. What am I missing that is keeping me from doing those little things every day to get to the place I want to be? Matt is reading a book called "The Slight Edge" right now that talks about how it is so easy to do the little steps each day to reach a goal (whether it is financial, health/eating habits, nutrition, learning, etc.), but that at the same time it is so easy to NOT do those little steps each day. There is a continuous battle that rages in your mind as you decide each moment, each hour, each day, whether to do those tiny little steps that don't show you the results immediately, but over time, will lead to the big results you want. I seem to be at the point where not doing the little steps is winning much more often than doing the little steps. I guess it isn't so much a light-bulb rock-bottom thing as a baby steps thing. Now where's my pacifier.

Hello Friends, 

So I was off in Arizona, drinking, enjoying the sun, and not eating too much..but didn't get to exercise at all...each day I had some type of veggies, (quizno salads are pretty good if I do say so myself) and ate some chicken. It was kinda cool to be around people who don't snack, eat desserts, etc...DIDN'T EAT AT NIGHT AT ALL...accept when I was awake and driving back..proud of that...also one both my trips there and back, I didn't buy any fried foods (which I wanted) and bought some veggies to eat for the drive... I am very interested to weigh in, but not sure when that will happen...

Sunday:
B: blueberry bagel w/ cream cheese, coffee
D: steak (size of a deck of cards which I've heard is the proper portion), scoop of mashed potatoes, 2 small pieces of bread, cup of fruit, glass of white wine

Both days were a late breakfast, hence the no lunch
Mark and I went to the gym today!! I only lasted on the eliptical for 10 minutes, but then did some arm and ab work. Now that my schedule is lightening up, I think I'll be able to make it to the gym more. 
Dawn, come to my house this week so we can work out together!!

exercise

So, my boyfriend and I went to the gym 3 times in the past week, and there was a noticeable difference in my metabolism, I lost 3 pounds, and I feel a little better.

I think this is just what my body needs! I need to find a way to curb the ravenous hunger that follows these bouts of exercise.

Can't believe it is already Thursday! I don't really remember what I've eaten this week -- mostly done pretty well, though. No pizza! Lots of healthy soups, and a variety of ok other things. So far today I'm pretty whacked out, but I slept in late, so I think that's what's up. I've only had a protein bar and a single red-vine. I am going to go grocery shopping tonight if I have time, because we are so empty on perishables in the house and NEED some fresh fruits and veggies!

Had my dress fitting yesterday, everything went well. It still fits, but has to be taken in slightly and hemmed of course. Friggin' expensive!! Almost as much as the dress itself! And now I'm having dress anxiety, wondering if it's really the "right" dress. Will Mark like it? Aaagh! Freaking out a bit. That's normal, right? 
could we play the beastie boys sabatogue??? waking up at night...but doing good in day..but not making my way to the gym..I think I am going to do something drastic...

been a while...

just got back from Santa Barbara, a quick 24 hour visit, but totally worth  it.... my new little niece Kaia is so cute! only 2 weeks old, so pretty much sleeping and eating only, but still fun to see and hold. 
Anyway... I'm with Ellen as far as having a bad food week. Lots of pizza as well, and beer and cocktails. I'm really gonna try to be better this week, and my goal is to walk after work (since I'm officially off at 2:50 now) at least 3 times this week. The good news is that I weighed myself Friday and I've stayed consistent, so still a total loss of about 5-7 pounds since starting this, but I feel like the weight has just shifted from my boobs back to my stomach ;)  that sucks. 

1-week hiatus

Yay for Rosie being back! Lyssa, thanks for the birthday wishes!

Sorry I missed you guys last week -- though I did catch up on your posts just now. I accidentally took a week off from blogging just like I accidentally took a week off from good health choices. I really do think my downfall is after 5 or 6pm. I can be very excellent until then, but after that I just crash and burn sometimes. So, last week and this weekend involved some pizza, chocolate strawberries, champagne, tempura (yum), taco bell (yuck), and just an overall lack of portion control on my healthy options. I don't think my week of hell at work helped my discipline, either.

What I am doing to get back on track: 1) Not give in to the guilt, 2) Other things I have not yet figured out...

so I think I did OK, I worked out with trainer, did 110 push-ups, 50 pull ups, and then about 155 squats, and ran 1 mile, it was good...

went to INdian, didn't over eat, but then wanted to get some freaking donuts, cause even when you hang out with the coolest sweetest people, some couples make me want to eat...so, yes I thought about donuts for days..but I didn't stop. and feel good about it now..yes had some hot coco, and fiber, I am trying to limit my desserts to that..I notice with food when I am by myself and stay structered it really helps me not go off and binge...ok, so that was the update...

Well, I didn't get walking today... craziness going at school. But the "good" news is that starting Monday, I won't be working past 2:50, so I'll have more time for exercise. It's in an effort to convince the district to listen to the Union and teachers' requests, sorta like a strike. Basically we just work to our contract hours (7:20 - 2:50). But don't tell anyone till after Monday :) It'll be released in the press then.

Hello again

I have written a crazy amount of papers over the past week or so. When I have assignments like that I find myself wanting to do anything but be productive, cleaning sounds so appealing... So, knowing my procrastinating ways I forced myself though it all with no posting, grocery shopping, or aimless window shopping....But now I am back!

I have no idea what I have been eating over the last while, but not too bad. All my stressing left me with barely an apatite, which made for smaller portions.

L: salad w/ a bit of lemon oil and champagne vinegar (yum), 1/2 cheese,onion, ham tart. (not the healthiest, but tasty!)

Dan's out of town for the next few days so I'm going to do my best to avoid all the crap that temps me, like the tart that I picked up today...

Welcome back Rosie! I'm sorry to hear that you've been so stressed, but it sounds like things are mellowing out for you now. Let me know if you need any book recommendations :) 

So Friday was the school auction, but I was good, I think. Breakfast was yogurt and granola with fruit, and lunch was Eating Right ravioli. At the auction there were appetizers passed around for 3 hours, but I only had one. Then dinner was tortellini, and I only ate half. Then the dessert was keylime pie, and I ate a few bites. I did, however, have 5 cocktails. 

Today I had a late breakfast of hashbrowns and an omlette with veggies, and coffee and OJ. I'm a dumbass and we didn't make it to the Human Race (the timing was off because of the auction last night, and there was some confusion about what time we actually had to be there, but all of the donations still go to Families in Transition). So we did our own Human Race, and went on a 5.5 mile hike. The half way point is in Scotts Valley, so I had frozen yogurt with flaxseed granola and fresh mango. Then dinner was one hotdog. I'll probably have some cereal later :)

Rosie? Are you there?

So, where have I been?

I am almost done with my second job, and for a while there I had 3 total. During that time I don't remember what I ate except I am sure it was bad and I definitely need more sleep.

My shows look good, but during this time I gained 3-5 pounds. Not bad, considering the amount of stress I was under. I don't think I have gotten my heart rate up for about a month - intentionally - and i haven't seen my parents in a while. Very sad. Weekly weigh-in 185.3

So, now that I am almost on my 5 month hiatus from Theater, costumes, etc., I am very excited about hanging out with myself. I am going to read books, go to the gym, go to Hawaii with my handsome boyfriend, swim, nap, work my little 8 to fiver, and just "be". Oh and write in the blog :-D

Friday:

sashimi, rice, 3 pieces of tempura, 2 gyoza, 2 pieces cali roll (800 points - the boss buys lunch on fridays)
tonight I have a show so I will prolly eat when I get finished - I have steamed veggies at home

I realize this is not a good day. Tomorrow will be better as the stress gets less and less. I also plan to work out tomorrow, clean my room and give myself a pedicure. I think a little love goes a long way.

Thursday

So the pedometer apparently doesn't turn off, just so you all know. The manual says it does, but what they mean is that it stops counting and dims after 5 minutes. Nicole - what does the event button do? 
Walked another 1.6 miles just working today. Obviously none of it is aerobic walking, but whatever. Looking forward to the walk on Saturday! We're setting up the software now, which is oddly exciting.

Dinner: Big salad and maybe some pasta? I don't know what yet, really...

Not one of those super planned days, so we'll see what we wind up with.

But I did wear it at work, and I walked a mile and a half just working. And it was a minimum day! That is crazy to me. 
I had my bridal shower for work today (it was after school at someone's house) so I munched a lot on chips, veggies, pasta, one tiny slice of bread, 1 piece of cake with ice cream, 2 punch/champagne drinks. Ugh. Not to mention the donut for breakfast/snack, and the tiger's milk bar, and the NF vanilla latte for breakfast. And now I'm about to eat a small burger with a handful of fries (all homemade) for dinner. No dessert for me today :) 

Tuesday

Wow, sounds like it was a pizza weekend for more than just me :) Yes, I looooove those peanut butter pretzel bars, too, Lyssa :) Glad you enjoyed it! Matt's favorite is the vanilla.

So, today I was at a conference for my job, which whacked out my groove a little. Still did okay, though.
  • Bfast: strawberry Trim Advantage bar
  • Lunch: Turkey sandwich on a sourdough roll w/ a little mayo and mustard, lettuce and tomato, 1/2 a slice of swiss.
  • Snack/Early Dinner: Bowl of artichoke hearts, a chopped tomato, a sprinkling of LF feta, some sliced olives and about 1/2 cup of whole wheat pasta. Oh, yeah, and some olive oil.
  • Evening Snack: Probably will be a peanut butter pretzel bar and a banana - they are starting to look a little on the "overripe" side :)
I still have not started to exercise. I did bring my shoes to work on Monday but then ended up not taking a lunch break. Yesterday I didn't take my shoes (forgot) and then today I was at the conference all day and the lunch "break" was actually lunch during a speaker's presentation, so it wasn't really a break at all. Ok, I'm just leaning on my excuses :) I could have started exercising if I really put my mind to it, I just haven't.

pedometer!

my pedometer just arrived! I'm excited to wear it tomorrow. I really want to see how much I walk during a regular work day! I feel like I'm constantly doing laps around the classroom, so hopefully it'll all add up and be worth it. 
(Nicole - mine won't turn off... it says it turns off automatically after 5 minutes... any advice?)

My Monday

So I thought I would be able to go on a nice long walk today since I didn't have to work until the afternoon... Instead I had to take my kitty to the vet. He's ok but he did cost me $200 with his injury. =(

D: I broke down and bought a piece of chocolate cake. It's that time of the month, so... I'm not going to say "I deserve it", but I will say that my body "needs" it :)  I've been really good about desserts and sweets lately, and I have a feeling I'll take a few bites and not want the rest, because that's what's happened the past few times I've eaten dessert. Everything in moderation, right?

Bleh, weekend food.

Not a great weekend for food. Any weekend that involves pizza, taco bell (twice) and wine is going to mean a "bleh" Monday. At least for me. My digestive track is not happy with the poor choices I made this weekend. Better choices started this morning. The sushi on Friday turned out delicious, by the way :)

End of weekend

Got up early again for work so I didn't get in breakfast per se. I got a NF vanilla lattee at work and then ate and apple on my break. Got home and ate a tamale and drank some water. Then had some samples at Costco and a few bite of Danny's hotdog. When we got home we made a HUGE fruit salad and I munched on that while we were chopping. So glad to have fresh fruit in the house! I find that if I make a fruit salad, I eat it throughout the day. Right now, making linguni w/ onions and bacon for dinner and will have a salad to go with it. No walk today but I have been on my feet all day. I'll start up again tomorrow. =)

Sunday

Late breakfast of 1/2 omlette w/ cheese, ham, and bell pepper, a few bites of potato, toast, and fruit. And coffee. 
Dinner plans are steak, mashed potatoes, and salad or artichoke. 

Still sick, so no walking today as I had hoped, but I did just order my pedometer! Same one as Nicole (and Dawn I think). Can't wait till it gets here!

Oh and I lost 1 lb... better than I thought =)

Saturday

B: onion bagel - 1/2 with regular cream cheese, 1/2 with tomato herb,  and coffee
L: salad and few bites of Mark's chicken bacon sandwich
D: pizza is on its way.  I know that's not the best option, but I'm sick and don't want to cook. I will have some salad or something with it.  And lots of OJ. I really just wanna rest and get better. I've gotta do that walk next weekend and don't want to be under the weather for it.

didn't eat til after 7am! decided to have 1 bite of the pizza...yes I like cold pizza and toss the rest, 10 pts for a slice is a little too high for me..and who knows, it may be even more, hard to measure those things...

ok, so I need to let you all know..after my walk (60 minutes total), I made a healthy eggwhite with asargus omlette(3)..then, had some popcorn with a little bit of choch pretzels (6) then a fiberone bar 2, then anoher 3, then 2 ww cookies, 3, then tapoica 1, then 1 pt bagel with lf pb and sf jam (3 total) so I went completly off the handle on low point sweets...my guess is my body had a little sugar and off I went...hmm, so not proud of that, so had 16 of bonus, have 19 left for the rest of the weekend....hmmm...good news is I didn't eat last night...also went to starbucks and didn't get any pastry!

A while ago I was on salad eating craze where I would eat a small salad before my meal, and now I can't convince myself to make one - even when I have all the ingredients on hand. They just seem to sound/taste better when someone else makes it. I don't know what my hesitations are about....

Friday date night...

Hey, all ~

So, I'm off work today and headed to my girlfriend's house who had a baby a few weeks ago to meet her little guy and hang out. I'm picking us up some Togo's on the way, so someone else will make me a healthy lunch today!

Tonight is date night which for us also means a relaxed eating night. NOT a binge night, but not an "on" night, if you know what I mean. We are going to make brown rice sushi with cucumber, mango, avocado and a mix of red tuna (maguro) and salmon. Also some oven roasted garlic asparagus and a salad for veggies. Probably have some sake or wine and dessert will probably be strawberries. So, not bad for food, but the portions for the sushi and wine/sake is why I'm thinking it will be an off night. That's all good, though, it is one of the things that keeps us sane.

Thanks for all of the tips on pedometers and exercising at work :) I am definitely going to get a pedometer (thanks for the link!) and start walking at work. We'll see what else I add in during the day. I get quite the red face from strenuous exercise, so I may keep it to walking so I don't have a beet-faced afternoon!

May 1st

So I'm not feeling too good about my weigh in tomorrow. Feeling "heavy" though my eating has been pretty good. I've totally been into salads too Dawn! But we'll see.

What up, Thursday?

Thanks ladies for the tips about exercise. I am so all about getting exercise done at work! But, question, do you all shower after or just wait until you get home? Maybe that question is too personal? I think right now would be the perfect time, but once June hits it will be impossible to walk outside at lunch here -- even in the shade it will be over 95 degrees, with highs of 100-110 occasionally through September. I guess now is the time to get out there and get in the habit and then figure out what to do during the summer later!

About the pedometer - does anyone have a brand/model recommendation? I'd love to wear something that is super-slimline and doesn't create a big bulk on my hip, ya know? I rarely buy things without a personal recommendation, so please let me know what ones you all are using and whether you like them!

Plan for today (bfast is done)
  • Bfast: peanut butter pretzel bar and a tropical XS
  • Lunch: pre-made Cobb salad from grocery store
  • Snack: peanut butter pretzel bar at work then celery & bell pepper with NF ranch dip at home.
  • Dinner: Salad and 1/2 a Stouffer's chicken/veg/penne skillet
